Are You Still Justifying Your Thoughts and Actions?
Earlier, a client messaged and asked about AUTHENTICITY. She asked, “To be 100% authentic to myself, does that mean I have to tell everyone about my thoughts? Do I have to tell [my husband] about my deepest thoughts and about what I believe in? I’m thinking here about my spiritual thoughts.”
This is the gist of what I said,
“No. For you to have that NEED to tell someone all your thoughts are basically your feeling of the need to justify your thoughts and actions. Thus, you are not being 100% authentic in the end. For you to ask this question means that you are worried about his reaction. You are pre-thinking what he would say. In turn, taking his power away as well.”
I remember, once I worried too much about what people would think if I tell them what I believe in – that spiritual part of me.
See, I came from a strong “logical” and“business” background. It’s always A is to B is to C. Therefore, I was pretty successful where I was. People always had something to offer me. I never had any lack of opportunities.
Five years ago, I felt so hungry one day and felt this void within me. It was hard for others to understand especially my family.
I was making good money and I want what? Wanting to work less and to know myself more? Oh excuse me, not “invest” in me.
And blah! All that sh**
Why throw away good income for something so abstract and lala-land, right?
My family was concerned. But, what I didn’t realize then was that they were concerned, because I was concerned.
They were just mirroring what I was feeling. I felt they couldn’t “understand” me, but it was because I couldn’t understand it myself.
And so, I had to justify things for myself, for others, for no-one and for everyone!
Honestly, it took me five years, until just a week ago to completely realize that –
I didn’t have to justify anything to anyone.
I don’t need to justify why I work the way I work.
I don’t need to justify why I charge the amount I charge.
I don’t need to justify why I acted the way I acted.
The flowers don’t justify why they bloom; they just do.
They don’t justify why the petals are wilting; they just wilt.
They don’t justify why they smell so great; they just do.
We tend to worry too much about what others would think or so we thought.
But in truth, WE WORRY MORE ABOUT WHAT WE THINK!
When we feel we don’t make sense, when we feel we aren’t maximizing ourselves, when we feel we are no longer fitting in any box…

Remember, the question to ask is not whether or not you need to tell others about your journey. The question to ask is this:
What are you justifying? Why?
